Description

Unlike any other rustic wooden chopping boards on the market. All bespoke made to order in our UK workshop.

These bespoke live-edge chopping boards can be created to a size that suits you and your kitchen. All bespoke made to order for you in our Hampshire workshop. If you are a fan of the James Martin, Saturday Kitchen chopping board, you will no doubt be familiar with this style of wooden chopping boards.

Each oak chopping board is hand-selected by us for its natural beauty, then prepared and finished by hand until perfect. You will not find a natural edge chopping board made to this quality and finished to such a high standard. We pride ourselves on making the finest chopping boards.

All of our oak chopping boards are supplied with black non-slip rubber feet, which can be adjusted. These will be fitted to the underside of your live-edge board.

Concerning Bark:

Our Live Edge chopping boards will feature no bark along the live edge, just simply the natural edge with the bark removed. For two reasons, firstly because the bark is where insects and worms live, so it is best not included in with a kitchen preparation board.

The other reason is that once the timber has been thoroughly dried in a kiln, the bark tends to fall off, if not during this process, then later on, once you begin using and washing the board.

Sizes:

Our live-edge chopping boards come in a variety of sizes to suit your individual needs. Choose from 2 board depths and 8 board widths to customise your cutting board to the size you want. All boards will be 3cm thick.

Personalise your Chopping Board:

Live edge chopping boards are available blank or can also be personalised with your choice of words or letting. Up to 20 characters on the square edge.

We can also engrave a secret or personal message for you on the underside of your live-edge chopping board, making it that little bit extra special. Something like a reading from your wedding day, a favourite poem or quote, something witty or just something secret you don’t want anyone else to see – but you know it’s there.

Technical Information

There are chopping boards, and then there are boards like these.

Our live-edge chopping boards are cut from hand-selected, solid English oak and finished entirely by hand in our Surrey Hills workshop. Every board begins as a single piece of timber — chosen by us for its grain, its character, its natural edge — and ends as something you will keep for life.

Fans of James Martin and Saturday Kitchen will already know this style of board well. Hefty, handsome and unmistakably crafted, they look as impressive on a kitchen counter as they do on a dining table. Available in a range of depths and widths, each board is made to order to the size that suits you best. All boards are 3cm thick.

Your board can be left beautifully plain or personalised with engraved lettering along the square edge — initials, a name, a date, or a motif from our collection of hand-carved symbols. We can also add a private message to the underside: a wedding reading, a favourite quote, or simply something you’d rather keep between yourself and the person you’re giving it to.

About the live edge: The natural bark is always removed, both for hygiene and because kiln-drying causes it to detach over time. What remains is the raw, honest profile of the tree — complete with any natural marks, small knots and character that make each board entirely its own.

Rubber feet are supplied with every board to allow airflow underneath and keep the board stable on your worktop.

All engravings are in capitals as standard. Lower case can be requested at the time of order — simply add a note at checkout. Delivery is typically 7–10 working days, though this can vary. Contact us if you have a specific date in mind.

Care Information

Finish: All our boards leave the workshop treated with multiple coats of our 100% natural, vegan-rated, food-safe chopping board oil — no solvents, no hardeners, just pure plant-based oils that are completely safe for food contact.

Aftercare: Live edge boards are made from large single pieces of timber and benefit greatly from regular oiling. We recommend treating your board with our food-safe chopping board oil on a regular basis. This nourishes the wood, helps prevent staining and discolouration, and minimises the natural movement that all large timber boards experience. Our oil is available on the website.

Daily care: Always hand-wash with warm soapy water and dry immediately — never submerge the board in water or put it in the dishwasher. Avoid leaving moist foods on the surface for extended periods, and keep the board away from direct heat, direct sunlight, and damp surfaces. Always use the rubber feet supplied, as they allow air to circulate freely beneath the board and help prevent warping.

About live edge boards: As these are cut from a single large piece of timber, they are more susceptible to movement than smaller boards. Timber will expand and contract naturally as temperature and humidity change — this is entirely normal. Small cracks or splits may develop over time; any found during production will be filled with colour-matched wax. The live edge itself carries no bark (removed during production), though you may notice natural marks and small holes in the edge — these are part of the wood’s character and history.

Do not store outside, in a garage, or in any space subject to damp or temperature extremes.
