Description

When a standard chopping board simply won’t do.

Our large live-edge chopping boards are made for kitchens where the board is part of the room — a proper centrepiece, not an afterthought. Cut from solid English oak and finished entirely by hand in our Surrey Hills workshop, these are the boards that guests ask about and hosts quietly feel proud of.

The style will be familiar to anyone who follows James Martin or has watched Saturday Kitchen. Thick, substantial, with that sweeping natural edge — this is what a serious kitchen board looks like. Available in a generous range of widths and depths, each board is made entirely to order. All boards are 3cm thick.

Your board can be left plain or engraved with lettering along the square edge — a family name, initials, a special date, or a carved motif from our collection of symbols and zodiac signs. We can also engrave a private message on the underside: a poem, a recipe, a wedding reading, or something that only the recipient will ever know is there.

About the live edge: Bark is always removed during production — it harbours insects and separates from the timber over time. What remains is the honest, natural profile of the tree, including any character marks that make your board unlike any other. Any small imperfections found during production are filled with colour-matched wax.

Non-slip rubber feet are supplied with every board. All engravings are in capitals as standard; lower case can be requested at checkout. Please allow 7–10 working days, and do get in touch if you have a specific deadline.

Care Information

Finish: All our boards leave the workshop treated with multiple coats of our 100% natural, vegan-rated, food-safe chopping board oil — no solvents, no hardeners, just pure plant-based oils that are completely safe for food contact.

Aftercare: Live edge boards are made from large single pieces of timber and benefit greatly from regular oiling. We recommend treating your board with our food-safe chopping board oil on a regular basis. This nourishes the wood, helps prevent staining and discolouration, and minimises the natural movement that all large timber boards experience. Our oil is available on the website.

Daily care: Always hand-wash with warm soapy water and dry immediately — never submerge the board in water or put it in the dishwasher. Avoid leaving moist foods on the surface for extended periods, and keep the board away from direct heat, direct sunlight, and damp surfaces. Always use the rubber feet supplied, as they allow air to circulate freely beneath the board and help prevent warping.

About live-edge boards: As these are cut from a single large piece of timber, they are more susceptible to movement than smaller boards. Timber will expand and contract naturally as temperature and humidity change — this is entirely normal. Small cracks or splits may develop over time; any found during production will be filled with colour-matched wax. The live edge itself carries no bark (removed during production), though you may notice natural marks and small holes in the edge — these are part of the wood’s character and history.

Do not store outside, in a garage, or in any space subject to damp or temperature extremes.
