Description

You’ve never seen a chopping board like this.

Padauk is a timber that makes people stop and ask questions. Its vivid, almost luminous red-orange tones are entirely natural — no stain, no treatment, just the wood itself. Cut with the natural edge intact and finished by hand in our Surrey Hills workshop, our large padauk live-edge chopping boards are one of the most striking things we make.

These boards are for the kitchen that wants something genuinely different. Not just beautiful in the way that all good timber is beautiful, but striking — a board that earns a permanent place on the worktop because it deserves to be seen. Made to order in your chosen size, 3cm thick, with the same attention to craft that goes into every board we produce.

Your board can be left as nature made it, or personalised with engraved lettering along the square edge — names, initials, a date, or a symbol from our collection of hand-carved motifs. A private message can also be added to the underside, unseen but always there.

A note on Padauk: The colour will evolve with exposure to light, mellowing from vivid red-orange towards a richer, deeper tone over time — a characteristic of the timber that makes every board’s journey entirely its own. After washing, always dry the board thoroughly, as Padauk can release some colour onto a cloth initially.

Non-slip rubber feet are included. Engravings are in capitals as standard; lower case available on request at checkout. Allow 7–10 working days, or contact us if you have a specific date.

Care Information

Finish: All our boards leave the workshop treated with multiple coats of our 100% natural, vegan-rated, food-safe chopping board oil — no solvents, no hardeners, just pure plant-based oils that are completely safe for food contact.

Aftercare: Live edge boards are made from large single pieces of timber and benefit greatly from regular oiling. We recommend treating your board with our food-safe chopping board oil on a regular basis. This nourishes the wood, helps prevent staining and discolouration, and minimises the natural movement that all large timber boards experience. Our oil is available on the website.

Daily care: Always hand-wash with warm soapy water and dry immediately — never submerge the board in water or put it in the dishwasher. Avoid leaving moist foods on the surface for extended periods, and keep the board away from direct heat, direct sunlight, and damp surfaces. Always use the rubber feet supplied, as they allow air to circulate freely beneath the board and help prevent warping.

About live edge boards: As these are cut from a single large piece of timber, they are more susceptible to movement than smaller boards. Timber will expand and contract naturally as temperature and humidity change — this is entirely normal. Small cracks or splits may develop over time; any found during production will be filled with colour-matched wax. The live edge itself carries no bark (removed during production), though you may notice natural marks and small holes in the edge — these are part of the wood’s character and history.

Do not store outside, in a garage, or in any space subject to damp or temperature extremes.
