Description

The wood that nobody believes until they see it in person.

Purpleheart is exactly what it sounds like — a dense, striking hardwood from Central and South America with a vivid, unmistakably violet tone that is entirely natural. No dye, no finish, no trick. Just the wood. Our live-edge purpleheart chopping boards are made to show this remarkable timber at its best: cut with the natural edge preserved and finished by hand in our Surrey Hills workshop.

These are boards for people who want something truly one of a kind. Whether displayed on a worktop, used at the table, or given as a gift, a purpleheart live edge board creates an instant impression that nothing else quite matches. Made entirely to order in your chosen size, 3cm thick throughout.

Your board can be left plain or engraved with lettering along the square edge — a name, initials, a date, or a motif from our collection of hand-carved symbols. We can also add a private message to the underside: something only you or the recipient will ever know is there.

A note on Purpleheart: Like padauk, this timber’s colour will evolve with light exposure, settling over time into a deeper, richer plum tone. After washing, dry the board thoroughly, as some initial colour transfer onto a cloth is normal.

Non-slip rubber feet are included. Engravings are in capitals as standard; lower case available on request at checkout.

Allow 7–10 working days. Contact us for specific deadlines.

Care Information

Finish: All our boards leave the workshop treated with multiple coats of our 100% natural, vegan-rated, food-safe chopping board oil — no solvents, no hardeners, just pure plant-based oils that are completely safe for food contact.

Aftercare: Live-edge boards are made from large single pieces of timber and benefit greatly from regular oiling. We recommend treating your board with our food-safe chopping board oil on a regular basis. This nourishes the wood, helps prevent staining and discolouration, and minimises the natural movement that all large timber boards experience. Our oil is available on the website.

Daily care: Always hand-wash with warm soapy water and dry immediately — never submerge the board in water or put it in the dishwasher. Avoid leaving moist foods on the surface for extended periods, and keep the board away from direct heat, direct sunlight, and damp surfaces. Always use the rubber feet supplied, as they allow air to circulate freely beneath the board and help prevent warping.

About live edge boards: As these are cut from a single large piece of timber, they are more susceptible to movement than smaller boards. Timber will expand and contract naturally as temperature and humidity change — this is entirely normal. Small cracks or splits may develop over time; any found during production will be filled with colour-matched wax. The live edge itself carries no bark (removed during production), though you may notice natural marks and small holes in the edge — these are part of the wood’s character and history.

Do not store outside, in a garage, or in any space subject to damp or temperature extremes.
